"This summer I had
the opportunity to use the Gulf of Maine's Down by the Sea Kit for
a science camp sponsored by MAEA Interactive Science Programs in
Colorado Springs, Colorado. The kits lived up to the description
as "a one of a kind learning tool." We were able to use
the kits to expose elementary students to a world of marine life
that otherwise existed hundreds of miles away. Students who had
never been to a beach got the chance to see and interact with marine
life they had only seen in movies or read about in books. As a science
company who's focus is to bring hands on interactive science to
classrooms across the nation, the Gulf of Maine's Down by the Sea
Kit worked perfectly. Although I am a Marine Scientist by training,
I found the kit to be teacher friendly and extremely easy to use.
MAEA Interactive Science Programs will continue to use the products
offered by Gulf of Maine and highly recommends them to educators
looking for a way to make learning, in relation to the ocean and
coastal waters, fun and exciting."

As a new seasonal investigator
at Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory (http://www.mdibl.org/),
this past summer (2003), I initiated studies on bacterial communities
associated with intestinal and gill epithelia of intertidal marine
invertebrates. One initial objective was to sample widely intertidal
invertebrates of the North Atlantic. The resources offered by the
Gulf of Maine Marine Life Supply Company were critical to our success.
The staff were exceedingly knowledgeable and always willing to go
out of their way to accomodate our special requests. We were routinely
treated was collaborators rather than clients, making the research
efforts more enjoyable. As our MDIBL work has continued after returning
to the Illinois prairie, the value of the resources offered by Gulf
of Maine, Inc. have become even more apparent. This is a very useful
and professional organization.

As for the specimens: these are the
best preserved marine specimens I have received in the last 25 years;
I am very pleased with them indeed.

My second grade class
was thrilled to receive our "Tidal Pool" Kit! It was a
great hands on experience for the children and a fun way to bring
science into the classroom! I would certainly recommend the kit
to any teacher looking for a way to engage students in "discovery"
learning. The teaching guides were great too."

"The staff at Gulf
of Maine have been extremely helpful in supplying the organisms
I need for my research. They have shipped several orders for me,
and all of them have arrived in excellent shape."

As far as the live tidepool
kits, they were an incredible asset to our learning. Although the
sand worms were the most gross creatures I've ever seen, they did
have a purpose in my own learning. Over a year ago, while hiking
through the Garden of the Gods in a science class, we discovered
a prehistoric worm area. In it, there were some mysterious tracks.
In talking to my professor, the thought is that those are prehistoric
sand worm tracks! Anyway, back to the students...Being able to touch
the specimens alleviated misconceptions about what they felt like,
what their individual ecosystems and living requirements were, and
how they responded to touch. The joy on the faces of the kids as
they touched and handled them could not be duplicated! The ease
of use for the kit was especially nice for sqeamish teachers like
me! Thanks for making this experience available for my kids! Thanks
again!

"The order arrived
today. The variety is wonderful!!! We taught the teachers an activity
called Seashore Charades on Monday and then sent them to the Tidepool
touch tank for further investigation --- they loved it!! The teachers
are very impressed with the kits. Your company is a great resource
for them to bring organisms into the classroom."
